Oregon in April during tulip season has officially been added to my bucket list. And you thought you had to go all the way to Holland to see tulip fields like this!
These fields are absolutely breathtaking!
Did you know there is an official festival (IN THE UNITED STATES!) centered around these gorgeous tulips? The Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival is held every spring in Woodburn, Oregon. You can tour the flower fields and even buy bulbs! Many of these flowers grown in Oregon are hand cut and shipped to florists all over the United States. And ALL of the bulbs on the 40 acre Wooden Shoe farm are dug up every year and moved around on a five year rotation to prevent the spread of disease. Luckily they have some nifty farm machines to do the digging with.
Take a look at this stunning video taken during the festival…
Oregon isn’t the only hot spot in the Pacific Northwest for lush fields of tulips. It’s neighbor Washington also is alive with colorful blooms in the spring! Skagit, Washington hosts the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival around the same time in the spring. Skagit’s festival, which has been held for more than 30 years, boasts of attendees from all 50 States and more than 85 different countries!
Don’t fret if you can’t make it out west to take in springs gift of color. Wicked Tulips is located in New England and would love for you to visit them. The list themselves as the only certified organic flower bulb company in the United States.
Have you added this to your must see list yet? I certainly have!
